A Ni-MH cell is an abbreviation of
Nickel-Metal Hydride and an electric cell in which
the |
| |
cadmium cathode is replaced with
the hydrogenous alloy in the conventional Ni-Cd
cell. |
| |
|
 |
Along with the recent tendency of
light and small electronic devices, the cell used
as power |
| |
of the electronic devices requires
compactness, high-energy density, light weight,
long life |
| |
and so on. It is difficult to meet
all of such requirements with the conventional Ni-Cd
cells |
| |
or lead acid batteries. As environmental
pollution problems by harmful heavy metals are |
| |
raised, use of materials causing pollution
such as cadmium is restricted. |
| |
|
 |
Electric vehicles as one of non-pollutive
cars have been actively developed to reduce air
|
| |
pollution by exhaust of cars. The
Ni-MH cell has larger energy density than the Ni-Cd
cell |
| |
and no pollutive material,
so that the Ni-MH cell is developed for power of
hybrid and electric |
| |
vehicles, for electric scooters and
scooters for handicapped persons. |

¡ß Technical Respect |
| |
The MH cell
technology using the hydrogenous alloy can significantly
contribute to promotion of |
| |
developing
heat pumps and fuel tanks of hydrogen fuel vehicles which
are the next generation cars, |
| |
as an alternative
of CFC for air conditioners. |
| |
 |
| |
 |
| |
¡ß Economic and Social Respect
|
| |
- Contribution to establishing
the image of Korea about technology equivalent to that
of Japan for Ni-MH |
| |
cell technology by securing the
capability of development and manufacturing of high-performance
|
| |
Ni-MH cells |
| |
- Early achieving practicalization
of electric vehicles while spreading the high-performance
Ni-MH cell |
| |
technology and taking good part
in load leveling of required power at night |
| |
- Taking significant part in
creating employment by constructing infrastructure through
technology |
| |
development and establishing
venture companies |
| |
|
| |
¡ß Prospect of Future Demand
in the Market |
| |
*
Analysis for Each Region |
| |
The market of future electric
vehicles is estimated that the hybrid electric vehicles
will lead the market for |
| |
the time being in Japan
and Europe. The American EV market is estimated to be
formed after 2006. |
